Happy 100th National Park Service!

Our firm, BauerCombs Landscape Architecture, celebrated by visiting Mount Rainier and Longmire Inn where my first summer job was.  I have fond memories of my first job there and remember everyone who I worked with.  I’m curious to know what interesting paths and journeys they have all taken.  The Inn has gone through a few renovations since working there, but the quiet rustic ambiance still remains.

Longmire was selected as the first headquarters location at Mount Rainier National Park.  Today the original 1916 headquarters building is now a museum that tells the history of the park.  Across the street is the Longmire Administration Building, built in 1930 (shown below). The building is now home for the Longmire Wilderness Information Center.  

On August 25, 2016 our National Park Service celebrated their 100th birthday!  Thank you to all who have protected and cared for our parks.   

If you haven’t visited Mount Rainier or it has been many years since your last visit, I highly recommend you go.  You’ll be glad you did.  I love that mountain!
